The vocal segment of the 2024 Virden Music & Arts Festival, adjudicated by Marjorie Sparks, a voice instructor at Brandon University and the Conservatory of Music, took place in Virden Aud Theatre on April 15.
Also, this week pianists got to perform on the grand piano in St. Paul’s United Church with adjudication by Maureen Baird. With a Masters of Music Education degree, Baird is a private piano, teacher living in Melita.
Next week, the Speech Arts segment begins and students will perform solos, group and choir numbers in a wide variety of classes. From April 22 – 23 you can hear the performances in Virden Aud Theatre with Al Thorleifson adjudicating spoken performances. Thorleifson, from Manitou, has taught public speaking and dramatic arts in schools and in the community. He has always enjoyed the role of the storyteller and has acted and performed in festivals and concerts. No doubt the speech arts festival will be entertaining.
Throughout April festival visual arts entries are on display in the CPR Historic Centre (The Station gallery).
