Car thief caught in Virden

During this week Westman RCMP received a total of 48 calls for service. Of these, 21 were traffic-related including two driving while disqualified or with a license suspension, two assault files, two assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm files, and four suspicious person/vehicle/property files.

On March 27, RCMP were dispatched to a weapons call in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. Members attended and located three individuals who were placed under arrest. The three were charged and released to appear in court in June. One male was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon. The two other males received six charges including administering a noxious substance, x3 assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.

On March 24, it was reported that a vehicle theft had occurred in Virden. The vehicle has since been recovered and one male was placed under arrest. He has been remanded into custody and will appear in court in April on four charges including theft of a motor vehicle, mischief under $5,000 – damage to property, possessing break-in instruments, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

During a routine traffic patrol being conducted in the RM of Sifton, RCMP observed a vehicle speeding, travelling at 146km/hr in a 110km/hr zone. RCMP conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and the driver was issued a traffic offence notice which carries a fine of $521.
